Cloud Vessels
The cloud vessels embody a phenomenon of ephemerality — a fleeting, atmospheric presence that appears visible from afar, yet dissolves when entered. Though transformed by fire into permanence, the clay retains its paradoxical nature: grounded yet weightless, tactile yet ephemeral. Each piece begins with speckled stoneware, chosen for its raw, earthy texture that anchors the work in physicality. Over this, layers of porcelain slip are poured, their translucency and soft whiteness lending depth and subtle movement across the surface.
The vessels’ scale asserts their presence, yet their form resists gravity. Matte white glazes frame the surfaces, accentuating an upward flow that suggests air and lightness. Occasionally, touches of celadon glaze introduce clarity and fluidity, enhancing the sensation of the vessels drifting or floating. This dialogue between roughness and refinement, opacity and transparency, invites a continual reimagining of the form.
This is an evolving project. More photographs will be added soon.
The current images show smaller works, but I am in the process of creating a new series of much taller, larger-scale cloud vessels.
